Do you ever wonder if your dog really loves you, or if it’s all just about the treats? Well, let me clear that up for you: we absolutely do love you!
Now, while dogs like me don’t feel romantic love exactly the way humans do, we definitely love humans, other dogs, and even other animals (shoutout to my brother Rory the Cat).
We dogs are super social creatures who form strong bonds with our humans, our dog pals, and sometimes even other species.
Sure, our love isn’t quite like yours, our brains release a cocktail of love hormones like oxytocin (aka the love hormone), dopamine, and endorphins. These chemicals make us feel bonded, happy, and attached. So yeah, I feel all the feels for my human family and fellow pets!
Want to know how I show my love? Here are some tell-tail signs:
- Wagging my tail like crazy
- Licking your face or hands (doggy kisses incoming!)
- Following you around like your shadow
- Resting my head on you like you’re my personal pillow
- Bringing you toys or doing a playful bow
- Giving you that “I love you” stare (you know the one)
- Getting way too excited when you come home with tail wagging, jumping, and the whole shebang
- Nuzzling or gentle pawing to say, “Hey, I’m here for you”
So, in short: dogs like me experience real love and connection. We show it through trust, closeness, cuddles, and plenty of goofy, joyful behavior. Our love might not be exactly like human love, but it’s just as real—and way less complicated.
Love and nuzzles,
Ryan Reynolds the Dog
