By Nova the Husky
Many people think I was picked out of a litter of Siberian Husky puppies from a fancy breeder, but surprise… I was actually adopted from an animal shelter.
I was so scared that day. You see, my previous owner couldn’t take care of me anymore, so I was surrendered to the shelter. I had surgery, got adopted, and started a whole new life, all in one whirlwind weekend. It was a lot.
But it all turned out okay. My forever Mom and Dad love me. We have a cozy home, and best of all, I get to live with my best friend and brother, Ryan Reynolds the Dog.
I really believe everyone should consider adopting a shelter dog. Here are a few reasons why we make the best pets:
You’re Saving Lives
Adopting a shelter dog saves lives. Every time a dog finds a forever home, it opens up space in the shelter for another dog in need. You’re not just helping one pup, you’re helping two.
We’re More Affordable
Let’s be honest, we’re a bargain. Adopting a shelter dog costs way less than buying from a breeder or pet store, and you still get all the love and loyalty you could ever want.
Vaccinations and Medical Care Are Usually Included
Most shelters provide important veterinary care like vaccines, deworming, and spay or neuter surgery before adoption. It’s great for us dogs and saves new pet parents time and money.
Many of Us Are Already Trained
A lot of shelter dogs have lived in homes before. That means we might already be housebroken or know some basic commands. One less puddle on the carpet? You’re welcome.
More Dog Types Than You Can Imagine
From purebreds to one-of-a-kind mixed breeds, shelters are full of dogs you won’t find at a pet store. If you’re looking for a dog who is truly unique, adopting a shelter dog is the way to go.
We Know We’ve Been Rescued
You might not believe it, but we know. Dogs like me remember where we came from, and we don’t take our second chance for granted. I’m so grateful my Mom and Dad brought me home that day. Now I’m part of a loving family, and I’m so happy.
Good for Your Mental Health
Adopting a dog is amazing for your mental health. Sure, we’re cute, but we also lower stress, ease anxiety, boost your mood, and help you feel more connected. We get you outside, encourage routine, and remind you that you’re loved. I’ve even heard that dog owners live longer. Coincidence? I think not.
Adopting a shelter dog is one of the most rewarding decisions a person or family can make. I hope you’ll consider giving a big sweet dog like me a forever home today.
Eternally grateful,
Nova the Husky
